How to Obtain an Arizona Dealer’s License in 7 Easy Steps
If you want to obtain an Arizona dealer’s license, you must complete the official dealer application through the Arizona Motor Vehicle Division, submit fingerprints for a background check, obtain a dealer surety bond, secure a business location, install a business sign, and submit required photographs. You must also register with the Arizona Corporation Commission and have a computer with internet access. Below is a simple step-by-step guide to help you complete the process.
7 Easy Steps to Get Your Arizona Dealer’s License
Step 1 — Submit Arizona Dealer License Application Online
The first step is completing the Arizona dealer license application. Avoid errors, as mistakes can delay your approval. Each license type requires its own separate application.
Inside your Arizona Dealer License Course, we walk you through the entire online application process to ensure it is submitted correctly.
Visit our Arizona Dealer License Requirements Blog for more information.
Step 2 — Obtain Dealer Surety Bond
All Arizona dealers must obtain a dealer surety bond. Required bond amounts include:
- $100,000 — New/Used Vehicle Dealers
- $25,000 — Wholesale Motor Vehicle Dealers
- $20,000 — Automotive Recyclers
Your bond must include correct signatures and an attached power of attorney. Bonds may only be canceled after 60 days’ written notice to Dealer Licensing.
Our Arizona dealer training course includes access to our automated bond quoting system, which finds the best bond rate based on your credit score.
Step 3 — Background Check
All applicants must submit fingerprints. Misrepresentation or felony convictions may result in denial.
Reasons for denial include:
- Providing false or misleading information on the application
- Auto-related felonies in the last 10 years
- Any felony conviction within the last 10 years
- Having a dealer license revoked or suspended within the last 5 years
We show you exactly where and how to complete your fingerprinting in the course.
Step 4 — Find a License Location
You must have a physical business location. Retail dealers must meet all zoning requirements; wholesale dealers may use a residential location.
We cover minimum location rules and help you determine whether a wholesale or retail license is best for you in your dealer training course.
Step 5 — Create Your Business Sign & Submit Photos
Your business sign must be visible from 300 feet and clearly identify your dealership. You must also submit photos of your building, sign, office, and display area.
All sign and photo requirements are explained in your Arizona dealer training course.
Step 6 — Register With the Arizona Corporation Commission
Register your business at www.azcc.gov or call 602-542-3135. This is required before obtaining an Arizona dealer’s license.
Step 7 — Must Have Internet Access
Arizona requires all dealers to have a computer and internet access. This allows you to manage paperwork, renew licenses, and communicate with the Motor Vehicle Division.
